I remember the first time we met her.
It was a balmy tropical night in Townsville, and our youngest was about to head off for a year or two in Malaysia
He had finished his music and education degrees, and was excited to be putting his new skills to use in a different setting…. until he met her.
As he later said ” right girl, wrong time”. She was pretty and smart, spunky and just plain lovely. We loved her straight away, as did he.
He still headed off on his adventure, but didn’t last long. Three months later, on her birthday, he was back.
She quickly became a cherished member of our family. That was nearly nine years ago now, and she is our own daughter. And loved.
We said goodbye to her this morning. That brain tumour slowly ate away at her being – her abilities, her personality, her functioning. She died as she lived – surrounded by love.
We are sad.
